Canadian Forward William Akio has been a prolific goal scorer ever since his Sophomore season with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley but he took his game to another level in 2021. The Calgary, Alberta native was named the 2021 WAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the WAC in points (17), goals (7) and game winning goals (3).
Akio was selected to the All-WAC First Team for the first time in his collegiate career after previously being selected to the All-WAC Second Team in his Sophomore and Junior season. Known for his speed and work ethic, Akio played for Calgary Foothills FC in the USL2, Akio recorded two goals and an assist in fourteen appearances with Calgary.
William is one of those players who has a bright future on and off the field. Akio recently started a YouTube channel which has already surpassed seventeen thousand followers as of April 21st, 2021. The videos that can be found on the channel vary from training tips, and day-in-the-life vlogs highlighting his time as top fleet student athlete.
