Hello Coaches! I am a starting goalkeeper playing for DeRo TFC (Toronto, Canada) on their U17 team. I am passionate about my position as goalkeeper, focusing on it exclusively since 2017. On the field, I am very vocal and I direct my team. I am not afraid to challenge on a breakaway, but I also know when I need to stay back on my line depending on the game situation. I make quick accurate decisions; I anticipate plays and I am confident in the net. These characteristics make me stand out above other goalkeepers I come up against. In the 2021/22 season, my former team tied for 3rd place in their division. In the 2020/21 season, I was tied 4th for clean sheets in the province for OPDL (out of over 44 keepers). I have learned a lot of lessons from being a goalkeeper. I’ve learned how to quickly put disappointments in the past, like a goal going in the net. I have learned how to be part of a team and an individual at once. Being a goalkeeper is a lot of responsibility. You need to put extra time into the position compared to the field players with extra practices. To be successful, you need to not just master your position, but be able to understand the positions played on the field. You also have that weight on your shoulders that you are the “last man standing”. I have learned to deal with that type of pressure. I have an interest in Political Science and also enjoy English, History, Music and Geography in school. I successfully keep up with my schoolwork even though I have a busy schedule. Last year I was on Honour Roll. I volunteer and work on weekends cutting grass. I am very good at time management because I have to be. If I were to be accepted to a school away from home, I know I would be able to handle being on my own. Being a goalkeeper is an important part of my life. I put everything into it, and I put everything into the team I am playing for. I am dependable on and off the field. My goal is to play Division 1, to have a leading role on my team and eventually to play on the Canadian National team.
