The FTF Toronto Regional Combine made its mark at Creditview Sandalwood Park on Tuesday, July 14th to Thursday, July 16th — and as the biggest stop on our summer combine series, it brought an even bigger stage for players to shine. The action opened with a full testing session, where athletes ran through the 40-yard dash, 5-10-5 agility drill and vertical jump, laying the groundwork for what was to come. From there, competition took over, with players battling it out in matchups scouted by college coaches from across North America. With a bigger field of talent and even more eyes watching — both in person and via livestream — every play carried extra weight. It was a high-energy showcase from start to finish, and we’re excited to highlight the top performers below:
Overall MVP – Elijah Byl | LB | Toronto FC Academy | 2027 Grad
Elijah was the standout performer at the Toronto Boys Senior Combine and took home the Overall MVP award. Playing as a left back, he got up and down the pitch consistently, showing a good level of endurance across the two days. He is a powerful defender – standing at 6’1 and a fast runner, which allows him to match up well with different types of wingers. His positioning and box defending is impressive, as he was constantly in the right spot to clear crosses or track his men all the way. Going forward, Elijah is impressive technically and has great ball striking ability for someone who plays in the back line, which was showcased with an excellent goal scored on Day 1.
Goalkeeper MVP – Liam Sims | GK | West Ottawa | 2027 Grad
Liam was the standout performer in goal over the two days of the Toronto Boys Senior Combine and was rewarded with the Goalkeeper MVP award. Liam’s overall goalkeeping technique set him apart from the rest right away. At 6’2, he was able to command his 6 yard box well, looking to claim and clean up anything that came through that area. He displayed good shot stopping ability and reflexes when facing shots from close range. His positioning throughout the games was also solid, ensuring he was always closing off the proper angles to goal.
Defender MVP – Adoni James | RB | North Toronto | 2027 Grad
Adoni received the Defender MVP award after a dominating display at fullback across the two days. Adoni’s athleticism set him apart right away – he is a powerful runner who stands at a great height. On the ball he is very refined technically – with a good passing range and an ability to go 1v1 with his opposite fullback or the winger marking him. Defensively, he goes into all of his duels at 100% intensity, consistently managing to lock down threats from his opponents. Adoni also possesses an incredible long throw, which is becoming a more important asset in today’s game.
Midfielder MVP – Ian McFarlane | CAM | Tecumseh United | 2027 Grad
Ian was awarded the Midfielder MVP award following an excellent performance in the middle of the pitch. Ian’s technical ability stood out right away – he is a great dribbler with a great first touch and feel for the ball. With the ball, he is able to weave his way through opponents and get out of difficult situations consistently. His football IQ set him apart as well, both on and off the ball. He had excellent vision, often looking for and finding ways to set his teammates up for chances at goal. Off the ball, he made smart runs and often found space between the opposition lines.
Attacker MVP – Daniel Aguiar | RW | North Toronto | 2027 Grad
Daniel was the stand out attacker in the Toronto Boys Senior combine and was rewarded with the Attacker MVP award. He is a tricky winger who likes to go 1v1 and is often successful in doing so. He combines his quality on the ball with good athleticism, which made it difficult for opposing fullbacks to keep up with him. As a left footed winger playing on the right, he liked to cut in to combine with his teammates or get an opportunity to take a shot at goal. He rounded out his performance with a couple of good goals.
