The FTF Edmonton Regional Combine rolled into Bill Gilhespy Soccer Complex on Wednesday, July 1st to Friday, July 3rd – the second-last stop on our summer combine series, and the second-biggest combine in the country behind Toronto. With a strong turnout to match its stature, the event opened with a complete testing session, putting athletes through the 40-yard dash, 5-10-5 agility drill, fitness assessment, and vertical jump. From there, the spotlight shifted to competitive matchups, with players taking the field in front of college coaches scouting from across North America – every run and decision watched closely, both courtside and via livestream. It was another high-caliber showcase in a packed summer, and we’re excited to highlight the top performers below:
Overall MVP – Cache Huseby | CB | BTB | 2027 Grad
Cache Huseby is a commanding center back with a big frame and the physical tools to dominate defensive duels. He plays with a relentless desire to defend, consistently winning tackles, aerial battles, and protecting his back line with confidence. Huseby combines his strength with strong positional awareness, making him a difficult player to break down. Widely regarded as one of the top recruits in the 2027 graduating class, he has all the attributes to excel at the next level.
Goalkeeper MVP – Ivan Lavoy | GK | BTB | 2027 Grad
Ivan Lavoy is a talented goalkeeper who stands out for his excellent shot-stopping ability and composure under pressure. He consistently makes difficult saves while displaying strong positioning and quick reactions between the posts. Comfortable with the ball at his feet, Lavoy is confident building out of the back and plays an important role in his team’s possession. His all-around skill set makes him one of the more promising goalkeepers in the 2027 graduating class.
Defender MVP – Cohen Porter | CB | West Canada | 2027 Grad
Cohen Porter is a physically imposing center back who combines his size and strength with an impressive soccer IQ. He reads the game well, positions himself effectively, and consistently makes smart defensive decisions to disrupt opposing attacks. While still a raw prospect, his athletic tools and natural defensive instincts give him a very high ceiling. As he continues to refine his technical game, Porter has all the attributes to develop into a standout defender in the 2027 graduating class.
Midfielder MVP – Deshaan Govender | CDM | BTB | 2027 Grad
Deshaan Govender is a composed defensive midfielder with an excellent passing range and the ability to dictate the tempo of a match. He consistently connects play with accurate distribution, whether breaking lines with forward passes or switching the point of attack. His calmness in possession and strong game intelligence allow him to control the midfield and keep his team organized. Govender’s ability to influence games from the base of midfield makes him one of the more intriguing prospects in the 2027 graduating class.
Attacker MVP – Nahum Pinette | CAM | West Canada | 2028 Grad
Nahum Pinette is an intelligent attacking midfielder who reads the game at a high level and consistently finds dangerous pockets of space. He is highly effective when driving at opposing back fours, using his close control and vision to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. Pinette’s composure in possession and ability to make the right decision in the final third make him a constant attacking threat. As a 2028 graduate, he is a player with tremendous upside and one to watch in the years ahead.
