The FTF Edmonton Regional Combine rolled into Bill Gilhespy Soccer Complex on Wednesday, July 1st to Friday, July 3rd – the second-last stop on our summer combine series, and the second-biggest combine in the country behind Toronto. With a strong turnout to match its stature, the event opened with a complete testing session, putting athletes through the 40-yard dash, 5-10-5 agility drill, fitness assessment, and vertical jump. From there, the spotlight shifted to competitive matchups, with players taking the field in front of college coaches scouting from across North America – every run and decision watched closely, both courtside and via livestream. It was another high-caliber showcase in a packed summer, and we’re excited to highlight the top performers below:
Overall MVP – Mila White | CAM | St. Albert Impact | 2029 Grad
Mila claimed Overall MVP after an outstanding performance at the Edmonton Combine. From the first game, she took over with her intensity both in and out of possession. Her ability to breeze past her opponents with pace and strike the ball with power made her a threat around the box. What also stood out was Mila’s versatility. She played all over the pitch, always performing to an impressively consistent level.
Goalkeeper MVP – Noelle Kombele | GK | BTB | 2028 Grad
Noelle won the Goalkeeper MVP award after a commanding display between her posts across the two days. Her distribution was excellent, and being left footed gave a unique element to her game. She was not afraid to claim crosses in her box, especially anything that flew into her six yard box. Noelle did very well to close down her opponents in 1v1 situations and displayed excellent shot stopping abilities.
Defender MVP – Cohen Glenday | RB | St. Albert Impact | 2029 Grad
Cohen was the standout defender at the combine in Edmonton. As a fullback, she is able to play on both the left and the right flanks. She is very secure technically and was consistently helping her team progress the ball with her carrying. Cohen excelled on both sides of the ball. She often made good, well-timed overlapping runs around her winger and was also excellent in 1v1 situations defensively or when having to cover for her teammates in the back line.
Co-Midfielder MVP – Winnie Kee | CM | Calgary Foothills | 2030 Grad
Winnie claimed one of the midfield MVP awards for the combine after a dominating display in the middle of the pitch. She played well as a 6, 8, and a 10 throughout the two days. Her technical ability stood out and impressed right away. She is extremely comfortable on the ball and uses her skill to wriggle out of 1v1 situations consistently. Her vision on the ball means she can often find teammates in positions where they can really harm the opposition.
Co-Midfielder MVP – Zoe Amaechi | CAM | KESA | 2029 Grad
Zoe won the one of the midfield MVP accolades after an excellent display over the two days. She displayed her technical ability especially as a 10, combining it with excellent vision to set her teammates up in positions to score or assist someone else. Zoe displayed an excellent work rate as well, helping her teammates both in and out of possession. Her game intelligence stood out, as she was rarely looking to force play and knew when to carry up the pitch or when to release.
Attacker MVP – Estella Gigena | ST | St. Albert Impact | 2029 Grad
Estella was the standout attacker at the Edmonton, as she was a nightmare for the opposition defences over the course of the event. She finished with an extremely impressive 6 goals and assists – 4 goals and 2 assists, showcasing she is not just a scoring threat but an overall force to be dealt with in the final third. Her movement both in the box and in the middle of the pitch to go beyond the back line were impressive – this always helped out her midfielders and she consistently made herself an option. Her technical ability and pace on the ball stood out to highlight her as an all around threat on the pitch.
Young Player MVP – Everly Claughton | CAM | New Frontier | 2031 Grad
Everly came in as one of the youngest players at the combine and greatly impressed from the first game. She is frighteningly quick both with and without the ball, marking her as a threat in behind as well as when carrying up the pitch or engaging a defender 1v1. As a 10, she takes up good positions in between lines and understands moments to drop deeper to receive the ball to play forwards. She has a great technical base, with a good passing range and a good ball striking ability, marking her as one to watch in the coming years.
